THE SENTINEL GALLERY

Now taking bookings for 2022/23

The Sentinel Gallery is a modern purpose-built gallery in the heart of Wivenhoe, available to hire by artists and art groups wishing to exhibit their work in a professional setting.  The artist(s) hire the gallery by the week and are completely responsible for their own exhibition.  The Sentinel Gallery does not provide any staff.

To the left hand side you can see photos of each wall space.  Starting at wall A running around to wall O.

A total of  approx. 33 sq m of hanging space.  In addition we have many plinths that can be used to supplement the wall space.

Gallery Use & Access:
The Gallery is primarily designed for the exhibition of artwork but we are happy to discuss others ideas.

Covid Protocol:
All those hiring the space are required to follow current government guidelines.  If, due to Covid restrictions, it is necessary to cancel or postpone your exhibition or event your full deposit and hire charge will be refunded - so please relax!!

Gallery Opening Hours:
We suggest that the gallery should remain closed on the Thursday you arrive to enable you to hang your exhibition, label everything clearly and generally get yourself ready.  You may feel having your PV on the Thursday evening is a good way to launch your event.
The gallery should then be open between 10:30am and 5:00pm Friday to Wednesday.
We would like to encourage all exhibitions to keep to this timetable to reduce confusion for visitors.

Gallery Facilities included in the hire:
  1. Wireless Internet.
  2. Display stands, plinths, 8 x small picture easels.
  3. Use of the window - please put together an inviting window display
  4. Weekly mail-shots to The Sentinel's database via MailChimp - newsletters are emails to our database each Thursday or Friday morning.  Once your hire fee is received your poster will be added to the weekly mailshot.  You must provide a jpeg. of photos you'd like me to include and your full poster which should include your dates and times of opening.   Max 200 words and 3 jpegs please.  I will also post your event on our Facebook and Instagram pages.
  5.  I will display your poster on the board adjacent to the front door of the gallery.  Please email and I can print a copy for you.  No bigger than A4 - Portrait - please.  NB: ensure that your poster includes the 'Title' of your exhibition, and the days, opening times and dates.
  6.  Hanging system: fixed rails to be used along with picture hooks provided by the gallery.  No holes in the   walls please.  If you need to stick anything to the wall, please use "White-tack".
  7. Price labelling:  I have many clear perspex labels which hang neatly from the hanging rails.  Print your titles and prices onto cards 8cms x 4cms and simply slip them into the plastic covers when you arrive.  This system avoids the need to stick things to the wall!
  8.  Disabled Toilet Facilities.
  9.  Tea/coffee making facility and a fridge.
  10.  Flexible Lighting.
  11.  Local Signage
 12.    Private viewing evening by arrangement - please invite your friends and family.  We also provide glassware and a dishwasher!!
13.     If you own your own credit card machine I would prefer that you use it.  If you do not own one you will be welcome to use the gallery's SumUp machine.  There is a 1.69% fee taken by SumUp. A full inventory of your sales will be required so I can tally it to my machine before I can pay your takings across.

Please Note:  The hirer is responsible for the exhibition in every aspect including manning the event.  The Sentinel Gallery does not provide any staff.
